🌿 If you’ve been waiting for a sign to get outside again…this is it!

The Lancaster Conservancy is rolling out several updates and improvements this spring, making it even easier (and more enjoyable) to explore Lancaster County’s natural spaces.

Here’s what’s new 👇

🥾 More Access to Nature

Lancaster Conservancy continues to expand and improve its network of preserves, now protecting over 11,000 acres and 60+ miles of trails across the region.

That means more places to:

  • Hike
  • Birdwatch
  • Explore quiet, less crowded outdoor spaces

🌸 Peak Wildflower Season Is Here

Spring is one of the best times to get outside locally. Especially for wildflowers.

Places like Shenks Ferry (if you know, you know) are already gearing up for peak bloom season, with guided hikes and educational events popping up throughout April and May.

Translation: if you’ve never done a spring wildflower hike…this is your year.

🛠️ New & Improved Trails

The Conservancy is continuing work on:

  • Trail expansions
  • Habitat restoration
  • Accessibility improvements

Some preserves (like newer ones added in recent years) are still evolving, so you’ll see ongoing upgrades that make them more user-friendly while still preserving the natural feel.

🌱 More Ways to Get Involved

It’s not just “go for a hike and leave.”

They’re offering:

  • Volunteer workdays
  • Educational programs
  • Community events
  • Conservation-focused workshops

So if you’re someone who likes to do something meaningful with your time outside, there are plenty of options.

Why This Matters (Beyond Just a Nice Walk)

Outdoor spaces like these aren’t just “nice to have”. They’re a big part of what makes Lancaster County such a great place to live.

They:

  • Protect clean water and local ecosystems
  • Create lifestyle value (which absolutely impacts real estate long-term 👀)
  • Give you a reset button without needing a weekend getaway

💬 Lancaster Homegirl Take

One of the underrated perks of living here?

You’re never more than a short drive from somewhere that feels completely removed from everything.

And that’s only getting better.

If you haven’t explored one of these preserves yet…start this spring.
